charice pempengco scandal

charice - a name full of controversy these days. i felt so cheated. like when the one half of the Twins was exposed (literally, n i dun even like them)

for those who dun know her. she is a voice prodigy from philipines who got famous by emulating celine dion. (tat is so freaky)... oprah loved her so much. n Glee decide to take her in the second season. in prepraration of that, she took some botox injection on the face to make it more narrow. and it was done in the public (come on, in public?!)

she send out the message that:

" oooo....even though other people say u r pretty it is not enuf"
" gift of voice is not enuf, my appearance matters more"

the irony is... she is going to star in a show pass the message that it is wat is inside tat matters, not the popularity, not the outer layers, "Glee".

the damage is done. i dun like charice anymore. i dun even like her tat much in the first place.
i just hope that i wont hate Glee because of her.
I hope people will give more reprimanding message to her (not that i am sadist, but instead of encouraging her, and creating excuse to her, hopefully the negative remarks wil bring her back to the real world, help her grow into a more reasonable person)
i hope she would really grow up.
i hope she realize how much bad message she had sent out to the teens in the whole world.
and i hope she would learn that if she wan to hav some aesthetic procedure done for her, she would do it quietly and when people ask she just answer it is all a new diet that made her slimmer. (like the rest of hollywood)

dun get me wrong. i am not mad at her. why would i be? i dun even know her.
i just blame her mum. then again. it may be all a scandal. mayb, just mayb her mum wan to ruin charice career so she would go back into being a normal kid. wow. that is such a noble reason.

[ closed ] Taste of South: not so tasty southern taste

one of the earlier occupants of the de gardens, you can find Taste of South (TOS) opposite jusco. next to papa rich, you wont miss it. we decided to try it out before catching a movie across the road.

when we walk across, the shop seemed to be empty. hmmm.... maybe it is still early. after all, it is only 7.

we started ordering..... oh look, it is the chef recommended sign on the menu. oooooo. Mediterranean fried rice. i wonder how it taste like... when it came, the rice look bland, taste bland. i ended up asking for soya sauce. hmmmm.... maybe that is how Mediterranean people eat. OR the chef knew that I had high risk for cardiovascular problem and decided to help me
with a healthier diet.
wife just recovered from AGE so ordered porridge. also with chef recommended sign.... when it came we started looking for grains of rice in the porridge. it looked more like a bowl of glue. ahhh... maybe southern people dont cook porridge with rice.

the saving grace? the waiter n waitress are all very nice. the price is not so pricey. and hey, they even hand out nice discount vouchers (whole lot of that too) when i pay the bill.

ratings: 2 poink (intially it was 1, but the vouchers they gave out help to boost up the rating)
comments: i MAY want to come back cause i feel bad not using the vouchers. and i can have the whole restaurant by myself without paying much. hmmmm.. then again, maybe tat was just a locum chef

Michelangelo's Pizzaria: Ipoh not so new pizza place

nowadays there seems to be an influx of angmo doing eatery business in Ipoh. Not so new to join the bandwagon is Michelangelo's pizzaria. situated in medan baru ipoh, near jusco, tesco, the shop is always full. finally, after so long, we paid a visit to this lovely place.

first, the shop itself is nicely deco. it is down to earth, with a full view of the oven. and u can c the cooking process all along. the staff? nice bunch of people. and they seems to be enjoying themselves, which make the whole dinner pleasant.

the most important aspect.. the food it self is great. way better than pizza hut. more authentic. taste better. and u can combine 2 flavours into one pizza. they even served it on top of a big tomato sauce can. innovative way to save some table space. the pizza was great. we had a combo of bacon and eggs with italian sausage. the only drawback was the sausage was bit on the rubbery side. not something that my dad could chew on.

price is rather reasonable. the owner even find time to go around the tables to make sure everyone is happy. sweet personal touch. all in all, it was a pleasant dinner in the pizzaria, and we definitely want to be back.

ratings: 4 half poinks
comments: portion is rather big, so do come at least in 3 or 4. (this coming from me, which most people consider me as big eater), and come early.

8/11/2010: people had said that since the angmo owner of this pizzaria left, taste had been deteriorating, I seemed to agreed a bit. though the pizza still remain better than wat other pizza joint had to offer. the crust on our last visit was burnt at times, but the topping remained good. our blue cheese pizza was bit less eccentric compare to the first time i had it. The Hog was definitely my favourite in view of the amount of pork inside it, but it was bit on the salty side. overall, this still remained the best pizza joint in ipoh.

Clash of Titans: clash of the opinions

finally found the time to watch a remake of a classic. Clash of Titans. I can still remember the scene of a really fake giant in the ori. (I am not that old, just that it was shown in TV3 when I was a kid).

story of how the horny Greek gods came n produce children. And one of the kid turn rebellious and go against his daddy. The uncle who was bored to death in hell decide to take this chance to unleashed his humongous pet monster. Kid with the help of daddy defeat the pair and saves the day.

Different people say different things. It does have the elements of any summer big budget blockbuster film.
story: cant go wrong with Greek mythology.
leads: muscle filled actor (with skirt) and pretty actress.
effect: CGI monster
script: cheesy lines.

So what went wrong? I dont know. recycle story? incestuous element? (come on, the lead lady watched the boy grow up then ending up with him? ), the fake CGI scorpion? the cheesy dialog? Dont get me wrong. It is not as bad as most people say it is. Not worth the ticket price but do make a decent weekend movie at home.

ratings: 2 half poinks
comments: my wife will laugh at me, but i still prefer percy jackson.

Inception: I dreamed of a dream

This is the truth. I hate Leornado. Ever since he grew up from Growing Pains. Titanic didnt help the picture. Departed made it worse. Then came along Inception.

As most reviewer would have said. The less you know about the movie, the better it is. From the twisted mind of Chris Nolan, came this dream. And yes, the less you know about it, the more enjoyable the show is. The story of how a mind thief who initially started off as a thief, how he assemble his team to "implant" an idea into someone mind.

***spoiler alert***

....and how he used the concept of dream within a dream to do that. Dont be mistaken, this is not the eye flashing CGI movie (though the fight scene is ingenius!), this is not a total sci-fi movie either. This is a HEIST movie. Think the Ocean premise. We have the extractor, the point man, the forger, the architect, the tourist. And it is such a brilliant way to tell a story. The actors could act also, unlike so many movies nowadays.

It may not be as twisted as Memento, but it did present better in the commercial sense compare to the former. Meaning, it is more enjoyable to the public. Though half of the cinema would be still trying to figure out what had they been watching after 2 half hours, I totally enjoyed it! Poink!

ratings: 4 1/2 poink (mrs say 5)
comments: DO NOT watch this movie if after a long day at work. Cause you really need your BRAIN to watch this.
ps. i am going to create my own "totem" tonite.
