Cap Americe, First Avengers: one of the better ones....

We had so many choices for summer blockbuster this years. Spoil for choices. But not necessary a good thing. Thor was rather decent but far from good, transformer is lame to be transformer. Everyone says bad things bout green lantern decided not to watch it. XMen first class was good, but still lack the depth compare to the comic.

Captain America: First Avengers did receive some good reviews, making it a obvious choice. I had never had any interest in Cap in the comic world, I do not like any heroes running around with the flag around the waste, wearing feathers on his helmet. Too ridiculous for me. However, considering that Cap was created in the midst of war in 1941, probably that is forgivable.

The story is the usual origin story, Cap initially is a skinny guy with big heart and courage. Got picked into a secret government project (against the Nazi), turn into a super human with super speed, strength etc. The scientist got killed in the process, making him the only super soldier around. Like another female agent (expected!). Fight some Nazi especially their super natural-science branch Hydra. Meet its head honcho the RED SKULL, foil his plan to destroy US, in the process got refrigerated for life until unfrozen in present day. Tadah! Add Nick Fury to the end of the show, and you have a 2 hour long introduction/ prologue to the Avengers movie in 2012.

As a stand alone movie, it is not too bad. Acting was good, the romance was rather believable. Even the story was not as corny. Dialogue was witty. Tommy Lee Jones one liner was actually funny at the right moment. However, the film lack a good climax, Red Skull plan to destroy major cities in the world lack the OOMPHH. Red Skull, played by Hugo Weaving also lack the villian in him. Oh, he did a good job, but compare to his portrayal of Agent Smith in Matrix, this is nothing.

Overall, it is a fun ride, but still a prologue to another great movie (I hope). Treat it as such, and the ride would be better. Otherwise, it is just another run of the mill superhero movie.

Ratings: 3 half poink!
